About Us

Hi! We’re Annie and Alicia. We both grew up on the coast of Maine and met as coworkers leading backcountry sailing expeditions in Maine and the Florida Keys. We always dreamed of working together and running our own business one day. That dream came true when we purchased The Tipsy Butler in March of 2026. We’ve spent years working in outdoor education, hospitality, sailing, for-profit and nonprofit management, seafood, scientific research and aquaculture. All of these experiences shape our approach to taking care of people and bringing strangers together to create memorable experiences. At The Tipsy Butler, we want everyone to feel welcome, no matter where you come from or how long you stay.

If you’ve never stayed in a B&B before (we hadn’t!), you’re in for a treat. We think the Butler offers the best of all worlds when it comes to visiting midcoast Maine: the privacy and luxury comforts of a boutique inn, the independence of an Airbnb, and the authenticity of staying with local friends. So yes, we’ll serve you a two-course housemade breakfast each morning of your stay and make sure your room is spiffy clean. But we’ll also loan you a book or a lawn game, tell you how to get to the best swimming spots, let you know what’s playing at the movie theater, schedule your private session in our wood-fired cedar sauna, send you to our dear friends’ restaurants and shops, and help you craft a visit you’ll never forget.

This isn’t a hotel – it’s our home. Our chickens roam the yard when the weather is good, and our dog Hobie is always happy to say hello if you’d like to meet him. We live out our values of compassion, hospitality, and service by welcoming visitors to The Tipsy Butler year-round and meeting each guest where they’re at.
