Hi! We’re
Annie and Alicia.

We both grew up on the coast of Maine, and we met as coworkers leading backcountry sailing expeditions in Maine and the Florida Keys with the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School. We boomeranged back to Maine in 2019, got married in 2022, and eventually started hatching a dream of working together again and running our own business. That dream came true when we purchased The Tipsy Butler in March of 2026!

We share a love of adventure and meaningful experiences. Alicia’s owned a restaurant, managed a sailing school in San Francisco Bay, and served as the executive director of two local maritime nonprofits. Annie’s worked in an oyster hatchery, cooked meals aboard a traditional wooden schooner, and managed a rustic mountain lodge. These days, Annie works her day job in marine research and education while Alicia is full-time at the B&B. We run the Tipsy Butler as a team each and every day. Our personal and professional experiences all shape our shared approach to taking care of guests and helping them create memories they’ll never forget.

At The Tipsy Butler, we want everyone to feel welcome, no matter where you come from or how long you’re with us.

If you’ve never stayed in a B&B before (we hadn’t!), you’re in for a treat. We think the Butler offers the best of all worlds when it comes to visiting midcoast Maine: the privacy and luxury comforts of a boutique inn, the independence of an Airbnb, and the authenticity that can only be found when you stay with locals. Plus, the good vibes that come from supporting a small family-owned business.

This isn’t a hotel. It’s our home. So yes, we’ll serve you a two-course housemade breakfast each morning of your stay and make sure your room is spiffy clean. But we’ll also loan you a book or a lawn game, tell you how to get to the best swimming spots, let you know what’s playing at the movie theater, schedule your private session in our wood-fired cedar sauna, send you to the best nearby restaurants and shops, and help you craft a visit you’ll never forget. And because this is our home, not just our business, you may also find yourself feeding veggie scraps to our backyard chickens or saying hello to Hobie (our twelve-year-old whippet/terrier mix and Inn Dog extraordinaire).

We’re so grateful to get to do what we love. We welcome guests to the Tipsy Butler all year round, and we’d be thrilled to host you on your next visit to midcoast Maine.
